Roku launches updated media streamers, cuts prices as well

A big day for media streamers in general and Roku in particular. Pressured by the recently released Apple TV, Roku updated their entire line of media streamers with better and cheaper boxes.  They also got rid of the standard definition only box with the cheapest model at $59 capable of streaming 720p already. All three media streamer boxes include wireless connectivity, HDMI and component outputs and are capable of streaming more than 75 channels including Netflix, Amazon Video on Demand, Pandora, Vimeo, Flixter, Facebook Photos, etc.

The three models launched today are as following:

1. At $59, Roku HD (720p streaming)

2. At $79, Roku XD (1080p streaming)

3. At $99, Roku XDS (1080p streaming, dual channel wireless-N and USB for local streaming).

All the new boxes will feature UPNP (DLNA) clients via future firmware updates. You can pre-order them at Amazon now (free shipping and no taxes in most states, shipping on October 7th) - Roku XD Streaming Player 1080P Wireless-N for $79 and Roku XDS Streaming Player 1080P Wireless-N Dual-Band for $99.
